Lauren MacDonald is a Ph.D. candidate in the history of Colonial Latin America and the Iberian Atlantic World. Her doctoral dissertation examines the ways in which the Church's regular clergy both supported and contested the Spanish conquest of the Caribbean, as well as the impact of their struggles upon the developing shape of Spanish-American society in the sixteenth century. Her research has been supported by grants from the Jacob K. Javits Fellowship Program and the Fulbright U.S. Student Program.
