Associate Teaching Professor, Victoria Harms, has been selected as the recipient of the 2024 Transform Mid-Atlantic Alan G. Penczek Service-Learning Faculty Award in the 4-year private institution category. This award is presented in recognition of pedagogy and teaching featuring both engaged student learning outcomes and a critical exploration of the complex history of our institution’s position within the greater Baltimore community. The award letter cites Prof. Harms’ collaboration with the JHU Center for Social Concern and various community partners to co-create experiential and equity-centered opportunities for students in her seminar course, 1968: Rebels, Revolutions & Right-Wing Backlash, to learn about the history of Civil Rights in Baltimore. The award celebrates Prof. Harms’ leadership and work for exemplifying the important practice of service-oriented experiential education and the institutionalization of just community engagement at Johns Hopkins.

Congratulations, Victoria!
