The KSAS Office of Undergraduate, Scholarly, and Creative Activity (URSCA) invites graduate students in the humanities to submit abstracts for an upcoming virtual speaker series.
Through the Mellon Humanities for All Initiative, URSCA partners with community colleges both locally and nationally to provide programming and encourage participation in the humanities. In our Mellon Graduate Speaker Series, we aim to feature a variety of talks on innovative humanities-based research for an audience of first- and second-year community college students. Speakers receive an honorarium of $500.
Eligible speakers are enrolled in a PhD program in a humanities department in the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences. Application requirements include a presentation title and abstract, and a statement on why this talk would be of interest to an audience of first- and second-year undergraduates. Special consideration will be given to talks on topics related to food, which is the special theme for this year’s honors program at our partner institution, the Community College of Baltimore County.
Accepted speakers will be asked to submit additional materials for review prior to their talk. Talks should be accompanied by slides or other visuals, and should be 20 minutes in length, plus Q&A. All talks will be conducted virtually. Honoraria will be paid 2-4 weeks after the presentation.
For best consideration, apply by January 6th, 2025. Talks will be scheduled throughout the Spring 2025 semester.
